Built and hosted in the EU
Validate VAT IDs. Keep the proof.
Real-time VAT ID validation against VIES and six more official registries — with consultation numbers, raw registry responses and tamper-evident exports archived for the day your tax office asks.
- GDPR-compliant
- DPA included
- ISO 27001 infrastructure
Illustration of a VAT ID validation result: a German VAT ID confirmed as valid with matching company name and address, an archived consultation number, a quarterly re-validation schedule and a webhook alert for an ID that became invalid.
How it works
Checking is easy. Proving it is the point.
A zero-rated B2B invoice is only safe if the VAT ID was valid — and you can show it. From the first check to the audit years later, everything lives in one place.
One API call validates any VAT ID against the official registry — VIES, BZSt, HMRC and more. In real time, at signup, at checkout, or in bulk.
Qualified checks compare the company name and address on your invoice against the register — field by field, not just “the number exists”.
Every check is archived with its consultation number and the registry's raw response — exported as a tamper-evident bundle when the auditor asks.
Schedules re-validate customers and suppliers monthly, quarterly or yearly — and a webhook tells you the moment an ID stops being valid.
Live demo
See a real check — right here.
No signup, no API key. The widget calls the same validation engine your backend would — against the official registry, live.
- Real answers, not mock data — outcome, registered company name and address come straight from the official register.
- Proof from the first check — qualified EU checks get an official VIES consultation number — with an account, it's archived as evidence automatically.
- What your backend gets — toggle the JSON view to see the exact response shape of the REST API — one call, done.
Try it live!
This runs a real check against VIES — the same call your backend would make. Try an example or paste any EU VAT ID.
Official sources only
Answers come from the register itself — and are archived verbatim.
Registries
More than VIES.
Your customers aren't all in the EU — and “the number exists” isn't the same as “this is really them”. Seven official registries, one API.
- Scheme detection built in — send a country code and an ID — formatting is normalized, the right registry is chosen, prefixes are fixed automatically.
- Qualified confirmations — checks against name and address return per-field match verdicts. German requesters automatically get the BZSt qualified confirmation (eVatR).
- Beyond the EU — UK VAT via HMRC, Swiss UID, Norwegian organization numbers, Australian ABN and New Zealand NZBN — same call, same evidence.
- A path for everything else — IDs without a connected registry can be stored and verified via manual review — one system for your whole customer base.
Built for a flaky VIES
VIES is down again. Your checks aren't.
Anyone who has used the official VIES service knows the message: “unavailable, please try again later”. It goes down regularly for database backups — your compliance process shouldn't go down with it.
- Automatic retries with backoff — failed checks retry up to 5 times over 4 hours — registry maintenance resolves itself, without a single cron job on your side.
- Accepted even mid-outage — send checks while VIES is down; they queue, complete when the registry recovers, and a webhook delivers the result.
- Manual review as a safety net — if a registry stays down, the check lands in a review queue for a human verdict — nothing is silently dropped.
- Never billed twice — a check is metered once, when you create it — retries and manual review don't consume extra validations.
Evidence & exports
The audit is years away. Your evidence isn't.
VIES itself tells you to “keep track of your validation in case of tax control” — and then stores nothing. We archive everything, from the first check.
- Consultation numbers, kept — the official VIES reference for every qualified EU check — archived with the result, not scribbled in a spreadsheet.
- The registry's own words — the exact raw response — XML or JSON — is stored encrypted and downloadable. Not our interpretation: the source.
- Tamper-evident bundles — per-check and per-ID reports as PDF + JSON with a SHA-256 manifest — verifiable years later.
- Bulk exports for your systems — all results as CSV, JSON or Excel — filtered by date, outcome or registry, ready for your ERP or tax advisor.
Scheduled re-validation
Compliance isn't a one-time check.
A VAT ID that was valid at signup can be invalid by the next invoice — companies close, deregister, restructure. Schedules keep your records current without anyone remembering to.
- Monthly, quarterly or yearly — attach a schedule to any stored ID — created with the first check or added later, run on time every time.
- Hear only about problems — subscribe to the validation.invalid webhook and you're notified the moment a customer or supplier stops being valid.
- Run now, when it matters — big invoice going out? Trigger an immediate re-check without touching the schedule.
- History per identifier — every ID keeps its full validation history — one place to see when it was valid, and when it stopped.
European by design
Tax data is sensitive. Treat it that way.
VAT IDs, company records, audit evidence — data you don't want routed through a US API broker. TrustComponent is a European company: your data stays in the EU, under European law.
- Your data lives in the EU — validation data and evidence are stored and processed in the EU on ISO 27001-certified infrastructure — checks go to the official registries, nothing else leaves.
- DPA signed online — a GDPR Art. 28 data processing agreement, generated and signed in minutes — no back-and-forth with sales.
- Audit logs with real detail — who checked what, who resolved which review, with before → after values — exportable for your compliance tooling.
- SSO, MFA & roles — OIDC single sign-on, enforced multi-factor authentication and viewer/member/admin roles — your accountant can read without touching.

Comparison
For businesses that must prove it — not just look it up.
Built for SaaS companies, online shops and agencies that invoice across borders and answer to auditors — not a bare lookup API, not an enterprise tax suite.
